A selection of events in Edvard Munch’s life:

 

1886 Causes a rumble among the ‘dignitaries’ when heDet syke barn av Edvard Munch exhibited the painting “Det syke barn" at the exhibition Høstutstillingen in Kristiania

1888 Edvard Munch visits Copenhagen and gets to know the international art movements of the time.

1889 Munch has his first separate exhibition with about 110 works.

1890 Edvard Munch lives in St. Cloud outside of Paris and attends to Bonnat’s art school.

1891 Travels to Nice and thereafter to other places in Europe. Under palmene i Nice av Edvard Munch

 

1892 Munch opens and exhibition in Berlin that causes another rumble and scandal. Meets August Strindberg the same year in Berlin.

1893 - 94 Hangs out with Strindberg and his acquaintances in Berlin

1896 - 98 A life of travels andexhibitions. Paris, Tulla LarsenBrussels, Kristiania etc. Meets Tulla Larsen for the first time.

1899 Edvard Munch travels around Europe and exhibits in Venice, while experiences serious alcohol problems. The Nasjonalgalleriet in Kristiania makes their first purchases.

1902 On the September 11. Edvard Munch shootsRøntgenbilde av Edvard Munchs håndhimself in his left hand. He goes to the hospital the next day. Here he chooses cocaine instead of general anaesthesia so that he can follow the operation.
